Your home feels every guest

Have you ever noticed how different your house feels after you’ve been away for a weekand you had someone watching your house? Or after family and friends have stayed with you for a few days?

The air feels different. Things have been moved. Somehow an item has gone missing. The plants might look a little sad. The house just doesn’t quite feel like yours anymore.

I notice this all the time, especially in rentals and Airbnbs.

Every person who walks through your home leaves behind an energetic imprint. Their conversations, laughter, tears, stress, excitement, the kids running through the hallways, the dog finding its favorite corner to nap—your home witnesses all of it. Just as people leave footprints in the sand, they leave energetic footprints in the spaces they occupy.

When guests finally head home, there’s often an unexpected feeling of relief. You can breathe again. The house becomes quiet. It’s almost like needing a vacation after your vacation.

Hotels are a great example of this. When you walk into a hotel room, you’re stepping into a space that has held hundreds, sometimes thousands, of different people. Every guest has brought their own emotions, experiences, and energy into that room. Most people can’t explain why one room feels peaceful while another feels heavy, but many of us can feel the difference.

That’s why I have a simple ritual…

I begin by clearing the space with cedar., my rods or bowls. Then I place crystals where I feel they’re needed to help ground the energy. Sometimes I add bowls of salt in the corners that need a little extra support, and spray the mirrors with salt. My intention is simple: clear away anything that doesn’t belong to my family and welcome our own energy back into the space.

When I travel, I bring crystals with me. I often create a small protective grid in our room. It’s not something everyone has to do, but I’ve learned that I’m sensitive to the energy of places, and spirits like to visit me, so this helps me sleep. More importantly, it creates a calm, grounded space where my kids can unwind after a busy day.

For me, clearing a home after guests leave isn’t about removing anything “bad.” It’s about making room for what belongs there.

Just like opening the windows to let fresh air circulate, energetic clearing gives your home permission to exhale. It restores the space so it can once again reflect the people who live there.

Our homes take care of us every day. Sometimes they simply need a little help returning to themselves.
